ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team shutout out Regent University in a non-conference game on Friday night by a final score of 4-0.
Josh Moreland led the way with two goals on two shots.
Jordan Illian picked up a goal on three shots while
Logan Theodore scored on his only shot of the game.
Stas Maretski and
Sebastien Richardson split the game in game and shared a clean sheet.
Neumann asserted possessional dominance from the opening kick as they kept Regent pinned in their defensive third of the field. The pressure turned into scoring opportunities when, in the 19
th minute, they converted a six-yard shot for a goal. Unfortunately for the Knights, a handball negated the strike and the game remained scoreless. After the Royals almost scored on a counter, a long pass from
Owen Rem found Illian in the 18-yard box. He half-volleyed in the shot for his first of the season.
In the 31st minute,
Luke Mejia moved up the right side of the box and was tripped, resulting in a penalty shot. Moreland was chosen to take the chance and rifled a shot to the right of the goalie for his first of the year, doubling the Neumann lead. Six minutes later, Moreland found himself alone on the 'keeper and was dragged down for another penalty. This time he lifted it to the left side and made it 3-0.
From there, the Knights settled in for the rest of the game. They carried possession for much of the rest of the game. Even after using a total of 16 bench players throughout the game, Neumann still absorbed little resistance. With just over two minutes left in the match, they put up one more goal. A long pass from beyond the center line from
Chase Money, was beautifully collected by
Mikey Brown, just shy of the box. He then moved in and crossed to Theodore who rolled in the game's final marker.
Neumann (2-0) will be back in action tomorrow night as they host Washington College for another non-conference match, starting at 7:00 PM.
