Baseball Drops Heartbreaker against Marymount

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team couldn't hold an early lead as they were undone by Marymount University on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 12-10.
 
After a scoreless first two innings, Marymount got the scoring started in the top of the third on a run-scoring error. In the bottom of the inning, Neumann loaded the bases with nobody out and took advantage of the situation. Anthony Rakotz tied the game by drawing a walk. Nick Ciesielka gave them the lead on a fielder's choice and extended the lead when JerVal Shuler drove in a run on another fielder's choice.
 
In the fourth, Rakotz singled in the middle to drive in Jackson Armiger and after a pitching change, Ciesielka drove in two runs with a double for a 6-1 lead. The Saints started to chip away at the lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly. They got two more back in the top of the sixth with a wild pitch and a fielding error. The Knights put together a three-run error in the bottom of the frame on a Tyler Kilmer RBI single, Shuler scoring on an error, and an RBI double by Yoan Feliz for a 9-4 lead.
 
Marymount responded right back by scoring three runs in the seventh thanks to a fielder's choice and two run-scoring wild pitches. In the eighth, they took the lead on an error, an RBI double, an RBI triple, and another run-scoring wild pitch. They earned on important insurance run in the top of the ninth with a straight steal of home. Neumann got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a Rakotz RBI single, but they couldn't come back further.
 
Rakotz led with three runs batted in and a run scored in a 2 for 5 day. Armiger was 3 for 5 with a double and three runs scored. Ciesielka drove in three and added a double. Michael Harless got the start on the mound and went a solid 5.1 innings for the no-decision. He allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk. Rey Carrier suffered the loss giving up four runs, none of which were earned, on two hits and a walk.
 
Neumann (11-7-1, 5-4 Atlantic East) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a non-conference game against Cairn University starting at 3:30 PM.
