Women’s Soccer Secures Draw against Alvernia

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Soccer team ended 90 minutes of Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth action with a 1-1 tie against Alvernia University on Tuesday night.

Alvernia got on the board in the 17th minute when a corner kick landed in the box and although the first shot was stopped, the rebound was knocked in for the 1-0 lead. The scoreline stayed there through the end of the first half as the Golden Wolves had an 11-4 advantage in shots.

Alvernia continued to press play through the second half but in the 84th minute, Neumann's Malina Winterringer was tripped up inside the box, drawing a penalty shot. Ebony Arvelo was tasked with taking it and she calmly rolled the ball into the right-side corner, tying the game. It was her second goal of the season. The Golden Wolves had a golden opportunity to win the game late but a diving stop by Shannon Duffy secured the draw.

Julianna Hatt led the Knights with four shots, two on goal. Ava Stokes had three shots with two on goal while Cara Cimo had both of her shots reach the net. Duffy made six saves in net.

Neumann (2-9-3, 0-3-2 MAC Commonwealth) will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Messiah University for a 4:00 PM start.
