BALTIMORE, Md. – The Neumann University Track and Field team took a southern trip to compete at the Morgan State Legacy meet, hosted by Morgan State University. This meet featured athletes from all three NCAA divisions, along with junior college competitors.
Starting with the women's field events,
Allison Siravo hurled a personal-best 9.04 meters in the shot put. In the men's shout put,
Kevin Deal was a top-10 finisher with 12.24 meters, good enough for seventh.
Looking at the men's events,
Drew Konieczny finished fourth in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:57.41.
Devin Joyce also competed in the 800 with a personal best 2:10.64.
Kevin Hunter earned a season-best 100-meter race finishing in 12.20 seconds.
Isaiah Raye-Ryan had a 12.34 and
Sincere Denson followed with a 12.84.
Montaz Johnson led all Knights in the 200 meter with a 24.47 with
Matt Ricciardi(24.86), Hunter(25.01), and
Christian Johnson(26.98), all achieving season-best times. In the 400,
Montaz Johnson completed his heat in 56.29. Jaron MacNeil had a 1:01.36, and Raye-Ryan finished in 1:08.82. The combination of Hunter, C. Johnson, Raye-Ryan, and M. Johnson just missed a top-10 finish in the 4x100 relay, coming in at 47.93 seconds.
On the women's side,
Courtney Humphreys remarked that she "was more nervous because of the higher level of competition", but she rose to the challenge, earning a fourth-place finish in the 1500, in spite of it being the first time competing at that distance this spring. She finished in 4:58.42. Courtney also was top-10 in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:23.32, good enough for ninth. Humphreys said that she felt "pretty good and was able to stick with the girls in my heat".
In the women's 100 meter, all four Knights sprinters achieved personal best times.
Janell Goldsmith finished in 13.48 seconds, with
Ny'zhja Loper at 14.36,
Djeneba Konake at 14.61, and
Kyleigh Joniec at 14.73. Goldsmith also competed in the 200-meter, coming in at 28.86 seconds. The team of Konake, Goldsmith, Joniec, and Loper, earned a top-10 finish in the 4x100 relay with a time of 55.82.
Neumann will be back in action on Thursday for the prestigious Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, before competing at the TCNJ Invitational on Saturday.
