Three Hockey Members Named to to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area

ASTON, Pa. – Three members of the Neumann University ice hockey teams were named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area at-large teams.

From the men's ice hockey team, Scott Farrell, and from the women's ice hockey team, Edie Brenning and Shannon Donnelly, all received the Academic Honor. The team is voted on by the 29 collegiate institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team, the athlete must be in her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or better.

Farrell led the Knights with 25 points this season. He had a team-high 18 points while also netting seven goals. Six of his goals came on the power play and three were game-winners. The senior defenseman was named to the All-Tournament team after the Knights won their second ECAC West Championship. Farrell played in 87 games over his four years at Neumann. He had 11 goals and 44 assists. He was an assistant captain this season. He is also a Business Administration major.

Brenning led the team in points (19), goals (9) and assists (10) for the Knights in the regular season. She has played in 23 games this season acquiring three ECAC West Honor Roll awards for the week ending November 4, February 3 and February 10. The junior has played in 74 games in her career, accruing 23 goals and 23 assist for 46 points. She is a criminal justice major.

Shannon Donnelly has played a total of 906 minutes in goal while having 622 saves out of 675 shots on goal with a save percentage of .921. She has a career record of 7-13. Donnelly was named to the 2012-13 ECAC West All-Academic team and also was named ECAC West Goalie of the Week for the week ending January 28, 2013.
